Future Planet supports ArraTipp in achieving validated science-based climate targets

ArraTipp is a leading Irish agri-food co-operative, formed in February 2025 from the merger of Arrabawn Co-op and Tipperary Co-op. It has just received validation of the company’s near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets from Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Future Planet, the platform that accelerates sustainable performance, has guided ArraTipp in securing that validation which confirms that ArraTipp’s greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets are aligned with the latest climate science and the ambition required to limit global warming to 1.5°C. It marks an important milestone in ArraTipp’s sustainability journey and demonstrates how data driven ESG platforms and expert advisory support can help agrifood businesses meet rising regulatory and stakeholder expectations.

Working in partnership with Future Planet’s consulting team, ArraTipp has committed to significantly reduce emissions across its operations and value chain by 2030, including its forest, land and agriculture (FLAG) footprint.

A structured, science-based approach

Future Planet supported ArraTipp through the end-to-end SBTi target setting and validation process, including:

  • Developing a robust greenhouse gas inventory across scopes 1, 2 and 3, aligned with the GHG Protocol and SBTi sectoral guidance.
  • Identifying priority emission sources in ArraTipp’s dairy processing, agri inputs, fuel distribution and wider supply chain.
  • Designing near-term emissions reduction targets for scopes 1, 2 and 3, including dedicated FLAG targets, consistent with SBTi criteria.
  • Developing decarbonisation pathways designed to support meeting the near-term emissions reduction targets.
  • Supporting the preparation and submission of documentation to SBTi and responding to technical queries during the validation process.
  • Building a clear roadmap to guide implementation, measurement and reporting against the validated targets.

This work builds on the broader sustainability partnership between ArraTipp and Future Planet, which also covers double materiality assessment, CSRD readiness and ESG transformation planning.

Future Planet perspective

Commenting on the announcement, Colum Kenny, Environmental SME at Future Planet, said:

“The agrifood sector is one where there is significant scope for real impact from a climate, social and wider sustainability perspective, and Future Planet is delighted to support ArraTipp in achieving SBTi validation for its science-based targets. This is about more than a one-off submission – it is about building the data, governance and roadmap that allow a farmer-owned cooperative to decarbonise credibly while continuing to support rural communities.”

“By combining our ESG platform with deep advisory expertise, we help organisations turn complex requirements like SBTi, in particular the FLAG guidance, into practical, sequenced actions,” Colum Kenny added. “ArraTipp’s leadership shows what is possible when co-ops and processors lean into this challenge and partner for long-term impact.”

Ruth Waldron, Sustainability Lead for ArraTipp, said:

“Future Planet’s blend of technology and hands-on consulting was instrumental in helping us understand our emissions profile, design ambitious but achievable targets, and navigate the SBTi validation process with confidence. This partnership is enabling us to accelerate our climate action while ensuring we remain compliant with evolving EU requirements and true to our responsibilities to farmers, employees and customers.”
