Walls Construction and Future Planet set the pace for Sustainable Construction in Ireland

January 30, 2026: Walls Construction, a leader in Ireland’s construction sector, today announced its ongoing commitment to sustainable procurement with its supply chain and refinement of its double materiality assessment, underpinning the positioning of sustainability as a central part of its business strategy. Walls is partnering with Future Planet, whose consulting services and software platform are helping to embed this approach across the company’s entire value chain.

Walls as a sustainability leader

Walls Construction has established itself as one of Ireland’s most sustainability‑focused main contractors, integrating environmental and social considerations into project delivery, supplier management and corporate decision‑making. The company is now building on this foundation to position sustainability as a core driver of resilience, competitiveness and innovation in the Irish construction industry.

Sustainable procurement and supply chain

In recent years, Walls has embarked on a structured sustainable procurement program to work more closely with key suppliers and subcontractors on issues such as embodied carbon, circular design, supply chain workers standards and responsible sourcing. This includes using sustainability criteria in tenders, engaging subcontractors on ESG data and improvement plans, and building a resilient supply chain with strong environmental and social performance. Sustainability is now a central lens in how Walls selects and manages their subcontractors and suppliers to meet their clients’ demands for major projects.

Double materiality and strategy alignment

Walls is currently completing a formal double materiality assessment to understand both how sustainability topics impact the business and how the business impacts the environment and society. This work will identify the most material climate, environmental, social and governance issues for Walls and its stakeholders, and is being used to design a focused sustainability strategy that is directly aligned with the company’s long‑term commercial objectives and growth plans. The outcome will be a clear roadmap of targets, metrics and initiatives that connect site‑level actions with board‑level priorities.

Role of Future Planet

To accelerate this journey, Walls is using Future Planet’s specialist consulting services and sustainability software platform. Future Planet is supporting Walls in structuring and running its double materiality process, engaging stakeholders, and translating findings into a practical strategy and implementation plan. On the technology side, Future Planet’s platform is being deployed to centralise data, track performance, and give project teams and leadership real‑time visibility of progress against sustainability goals.

Embedding sustainability across the value chain

By combining sustainable procurement, double materiality insights and Future Planet’s digital tools, Walls is embedding sustainability across its full value chain, from procurement through construction and operations. This integrated approach is enabling the company to reduce emissions and waste, strengthen social impact, respond to evolving client and regulatory expectations, and demonstrate clear leadership on sustainability within Ireland’s construction industry.

“Our partnership with Future Planet empowers us to meet rising customer expectations, regulatory requirements and it shapes our resilient, climate-positive future for construction,” said Louise Martin, Environmental and Sustainability Manager at Walls Construction. “We are enhancing our ability to navigate financial risks and opportunities related to environmental, social, and governance factors while taking care of all stakeholders’ interest. It is hugely valuable to be able to leverage both the strategic support and technology that Future Planet provides.”

Speaking about the Walls Construction partnership, Ingrid De Doncker, co-founder of Future Planet, praised the strategic approach the company has taken:

“Walls Construction has always been very customer focused and now includes the ‘environment’ as part of its important stakeholders. We are delighted to have been selected by Walls to help guide that journey. The company’s commitment to sustainability and its community-first approach is admirable and drives the business forward. By using the Future Planet platform to embed sustainability at the heart of the business, Walls can proactively manage risks relating to climate change while identifying opportunities for innovation and growth in a transitioning economy.”
